Green thumbs from across Queensland and beyond are gearing up to get the dirt on all things gardening, landscaping and floristry, with the 33rd annual Queensland Garden Expo set to take place between 7 and 9 July.

Event Manager Marion Beazley said she anticipated close to 40,000 people would attend the three-day event, with keen gardeners expected to travel from as far as New Zealand for their hit of gardening inspiration.

“Over the past three decades, the expo has developed a significant following and has earnt its stripes as the gardening event with the largest and most comprehensive speaker program in Australia,” Ms Beazley said.

“This year’s program will feature more than 120 presentations and demonstrations across eight stages, with a range of industry experts getting behind the microphone to share their insights and tips.”

“We’re delighted to have some well-known faces from Gardening Australia joining the speaker line-up as well as various home-grown experts from the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.”

Ms Beazley said a dedicated team of gardening professionals would be on hand throughout the expo to answer attendees’ questions and offer free, personalised advice.

“Whether you’re seeking treatment tips for a sick plant, want help on how to make your garden blossom, or simply wish to identify an unknown plant in your garden, our free plant clinic is the place to go for guidance.”

“We’ll also have numerous experienced landscapers on site to discuss current trends and outdoor design solutions.”
“As always, a number of beautifully landscaped gardens will be on display to inspire attendees about the endless possibilities for their own backyard space. Landscapers have less than a week to create a beautiful garden on a small patch of lawn and the results are truly inspirational.”

Ms Beazley said some of the other popular feature areas included the kitchen garden and Sunshine Coast Council’s ‘Living Backyard’.

“The Giant Organic Kitchen Garden incorporates a totally organic food court along with a fully planted, sustainable garden. It’s always a hive of activity as the drive to ‘grow your own’ continues to gain momentum.”

“The Living Backyard appeals to those who are passionate about preserving and enhancing native flora and fauna.”

“Whether it’s birds, frogs, butterflies, bees or other wildlife you’re hoping to attract to your garden, this is the best place to learn how to create a bio-diverse environment in your backyard.”

Ms Beazley said the expo also catered to food connoisseurs and home chefs, with the Gourmet Garden Stage the place to go for insight on growing your own produce.

“Our experts will outline how to cook with fresh, organic produce and provide a range of tips and tricks for using herbs and spices to make meals go from okay to gourmet!”

“There really is something for everyone at this event, so we encourage both seasoned growers and first-time gardeners to come along and join in the fun.”

The 2017 Queensland Garden Expo will be held between 7 and 9 July at the Nambour Showgrounds, Coronation Avenue, Nambour and will host more than 360 exhibitors including over 55 nurseries selling in excess of 40,000 plants per day.
