Estia Southport celebrates opening of new aged care facility

After 18 months of construction, the $28 million Estia Southport aged care home is celebrating returning home to the neighbourhood with a VIP Launch on Thursday 23 May before opening its doors to the public for a Community Open Day on Saturday 25 May.

Estia Health CEO Ian Thorley said he was delighted to see the new home come to life and looked forward to the home’s official opening and welcoming locals to tour the home.

“Estia Health is pleased to launch this beautiful aged care home to the local Southport community, providing more choice, flexibility and care options for people needing to access aged care on the Gold Coast,” Mr Thorley said.

“We spent a number of years planning and building this facility to replace the original home, so it’s wonderful to finally have the opportunity to unveil it to the public.

“The home is well placed to become a part of daily life in the area and we look forward to forming some positive relationships and partnerships with surrounding residents, community groups and charities.”

Located at 40 William Street, the new state-of-the-art home replaces the original care home built in the 1970s; delivering high quality permanent and respite aged care services.

The 110-room home, including a 17-bed specialist memory support unit, will offer a cinema, hairdressing salon, private dining room for special events and a modern on-site café.

Residents will be kept busy and active with tailored lifestyle plans that cater for many specialist interests and cultural backgrounds, as well as general group activities.

Estia Health welcomes the local community to come and see for themselves all the home has to offer at its Community Open Day this Saturday 25 May from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

“Being part of the community is very important to Estia Southport and our staff are excited to meet our neighbours at the Community Open Day,” Mr Thorley said.

“We anticipate the event will be a fantastic way to connect with our local neighbours before we welcome our new residents in the coming weeks.”

The reopening of Estia Southport continues the expansion of the Estia family and network of homes to include seven aged care homes in Queensland, with three on the Gold Coast.

For the local community the new home will provide vital aged care services for a growing and ageing population.

As the Gold Coast region continues to expand, figures show that by 2031, the number of senior residents on the Gold Coast is expected to double – accounting for over 20 per cent of the city’s population.
