In the era of smart phones, around-the-clock connectivity and online communication, it appears that more Australian businesses are moving into the digital age, with recent statistics* indicating the number of small-to-medium-size businesses with a social media presence has more than tripled since 2011.

Kawana Chamber of Commerce President Linda Delamotte said with more than 15 million Australians using Facebook and 3.8 million Australian users registered on LinkedIn, it was crucial that local businesses considered the benefits of having a social media presence and communicating with consumers via these platforms.

“Whether you’re a fan of social media or not, the reality is that this is now a significant part of many peoples’ lives and it opens up a range of avenues for building awareness of your business and engaging with existing and potential customers,” Ms Delamotte said.

“To assist local business owners and operators with successfully navigating the world of social media and using it to their business’ advantage, social media coach and marketing expert Ashton Wood will be delivering an informative presentation at the upcoming chamber business breakfast being held at the Best Western Plus Lake Kawana Hotel on Wednesday, 5 October.”

“The event will take place from 7am, and in addition to the educational component of the morning, attendees will also have the opportunity to network with other local businesspeople.”

Mr Wood said he looked forward to sharing his knowledge with attendees and inspiring businesses to build their social media presence and heighten awareness of their brand.

“The session will provide valuable information for both beginners and businesses that are already active on social media,” Mr Wood said.

“Social media platforms are constantly evolving, so I will be delving into the recent changes to Facebook rules for business which affect the way posts are shown on business pages.”

“I’ll also be exploring the use of text and video in social media posts, and sharing my tips for creating a video that ‘sells’.”

The event will also include an update on the Sunshine Coast NBN roll-out as well as the decommissioning of the old Telstra network. Staff from the Telstra Business Centre Sunshine Coast will be present to answer any questions regarding both home and business connectivity.

The Kawana Chamber of Commerce business breakfast will be held on Wednesday, 5 October from 7am at the Best Western Plus Lake Kawana Hotel, 9 Florey Boulevard, Birtinya. Tickets cost $38 for chamber members and $45 for non-members and include a hot breakfast. They can be purchased at www.kawanachamber.com.au.
