Estia Health has reached final stages of construction of their new 110-bed aged care home in Southport, opening at the end of May.

Located at 40 William Street, the new state-of-the-art home replaces the original care home built in the 1970s; delivering high quality permanent and respite aged care services.

For the local community, the new home and services offered will provide vital aged care services for a growing and ageing community. As the Gold Coast region continues to expand, figures show that by 2031, the number of senior residents on the Gold Coast is expected to double – accounting for over 20 per cent of the city’s population.[1]

The new Estia Southport home, will join the existing Estia Gold Coast home, located in Victoria Towers on Central Southport, expanding Estia’s network to include seven aged care homes in Queensland, with three on the Gold Coast.

Estia Health’s CEO Ian Thorley spoke of the new home and Estia’s expansion in the region.

“I’m excited to announce the opening of our new Estia Southport home, which will offer vital residential aged care services to the local community,” Mr Thorley said.

“We know the importance of providing quality care to those that need it at this very important stage of their lives, and we feel privileged to have the opportunity to do so.

“The new home has provided an estimated 150 construction jobs, with 30-40 care and hospitality staff starting with the opening of the home in May, and a total of 130 jobs once the home is full.

“We’re excited to play such an important role in the local healthcare network, and to the local community who need access to our services, whether it’s on a short-term respite stay, or on a permanent basis,” Mr Thorley said.

With dementia now the second cause of death in Australia, the demand for specialist care and services continues to grow – the home will provide a 17-bed memory support unit to provide a safe and supportive environment for people needing more specialist care.

“We know the difficult decision people must make when they themselves or a loved one move into residential aged care,” Mr Thorley said.

“Our Southport team will work closely with new residents and their families, to help them settle into our facility, and make it their home.

“We’re committed to delivering a high standard of clinical care led by our Registered Nurses and carers working closely alongside our lifestyle and hospitality team providing engaging and fulfilling daily lifestyle activities.”
