Following 17 months of construction, the team at Estia Health Twin Waters has celebrated the arrival of its first resident, Betty Daniels this week.

The long-term Twin Waters local was given the honour of being first through the doors of the $25 million aged care home and spent the day adding personal touches to her new, private ensuite room.

Mrs Daniels’ daughter, Vivienne Bryant, said with her family spread between Sydney and Perth, and Mrs Daniels no longer able to manage on her own at home, the need for a suitable aged care home had become apparent.

“Mum has always loved living on the Sunshine Coast and has built so many friendships and networks over the years that we wanted her to be able to continue leading her much-loved lifestyle while also knowing she was receiving the care she needs,” Mrs Bryant said.

“Living so far away, it’s nice having the peace of mind that she is happy and being well looked after, particularly since her husband’s sad passing in July this year.”

As an active member of the Twin Waters community, Mrs Daniels is well known locally for her and her husband’s contribution to the Twin Waters Residents Association, as well as having organised the Twin Waters Christmas carols over a period of 10 years.

“My mother views the local area as part of her identity and it is very much where she belongs, so the opening of this new facility in the heart of Twin Waters was perfect.”

“The home is so close to friends who can continue to see her and take her to the VIEW Club, a women’s volunteer organisation that raises funds for The Smith Family, which she’s been a member of for many years.”

“It’s heartening to see that in addition to her usual outings, she’ll also have the opportunity to socialise with plenty of new friends and participate in a range of on-site and community-based activities.”

Estia Health Twin Waters Client Relations Manager Jennie Hodge said Mrs Daniels was one of 20 new residents that will move in throughout the month of September, and she was delighted to see the home coming to life.

“We’re staggering the arrival of each of our new residents to ensure our staff members have the opportunity to get to know each one personally and tailor their care to suit individual needs and personalities.”

“The home can cater for up to 114 residents at any time, and offers a mix of long-term and respite care.”

“To-date we have received an overwhelming number of enquiries for residential care and we’re also anticipating we’ll receive a number of requests for respite placements as we move towards the busy festive season.”

“It’s a time of year when people love to travel to visit friends and family but if they care for a partner, parent or loved one close to home, they often feel they can’t leave. Our respite service offers short-term options, whether carers are going away or they would just benefit from a break from their responsibilities.  Whatever the circumstance, we provide help and support wherever possible.”

Estia Health Twin Waters — Estia Health’s first greenfield site — houses a café, hairdressing salon and offers a range of specialists and allied health services on site as well as a designated memory support unit with sensory garden for dementia patients.

The home is located at 190 Ocean Drive, Twin Waters. To find out more about the residential and respite aged care offerings or to book a tour please visit www.estiahealth.com.au or call 1800 471 135.
