Almost 700 gymnasts from across Queensland will head to the Gold Coast for the Gymnastics Queensland State Championships for acrobatic, aerobic, trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics, between Friday, 17 and Sunday, 19 August.

Gymnastics Queensland CEO Kym Dowdell said that following the success of the revised format in 2017, this year the four gymnastics disciplines would again be showcased at a single state meet.

“Having one event that showcases each of these exciting gymnastics disciplines creates a great atmosphere for the athletes and an entertaining program for spectators, so we’re pleased to once again have the single, consolidated event,” Ms Dowdell said.

“These skilled gymnasts from right across the state, and even from as far as New South Wales and Victoria, will show off their strength, flexibility, creativity and passion as they compete for gold in their division.”

“This is what many of these talented gymnasts dream of achieving and spend hours each week training for, so they’ll be pushing hard to prove themselves.”
The event will be a feast for the eyes with performances featuring a spectacular array of trampoline jumps, twists and somersaults and amazing rhythmic gymnastics routines with the sport’s key apparatus — hoops, balls, ribbons, clubs and ropes.

“It won’t just be individuals displaying their skills; there are pairs, trios, quads and groups participating in some of the disciplines and this year schools will also be competing in AeroSchools that will run in conjunction with this competition,” Ms Dowdell said.

“There will be schools from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Rockhampton and Victoria competing for qualification into the Australian AeroSchools Championships taking place on the Gold Coast in September 2018.”

Aerobic gymnastics incorporates complex, high intensity movement patterns set to music and is particularly popular with spectators.

“The three days of competition will be exciting for competitors and spectators alike, and all four disciplines will highlight gymnasts’ flexibility, skill and strength.”
“We can’t wait to see the routines these talented athletes have developed and perfected.”

The Gymnastics Queensland State Championships for acrobatic, aerobic, trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics will be held at the Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre, Lot 8, Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Carrara between Friday, 17 August and Sunday, 19 August.
