Iconic Queensland firm appoints CEO

December 1, 2015

Long-standing Queensland company Reed Property Group has a new CEO at the helm with former Head of Development Jay Emmerton stepping into the role to oversee both the development arm of the organisation as well as its construction arm, RCQ Construction.

Reed Property Group Chairman Ken Reed — whose family established the firm in the late 1980s — said the appointment was a positive step forward for the group as it looks to expand its presence across Queensland.

“The appointment marks a new era for Reed Property Group and RCQ Construction and we are confident in Jay’s wealth of experience to take the group to the next level into the future,” Mr Reed said.

“Jay will focus on fine-tuning the strategic direction of the group and looking at ways to capitalise on new development and construction opportunities.”

“In his role as Head of Development Jay demonstrated his ability to achieve ambitious objectives and push the boundaries and we look forward to this approach filtering down through the entire group.  The board is certainly feeling buoyant about the future.”

Mr Reed said Mr Emmerton’s extensive knowledge of both residential and commercial property markets, as well as his proven leadership skills had highlighted him as a fitting candidate for the new role of CEO, and he was delighted to have him taking the reins.

“In addition to his former role as Head of Development at Reed Property Group, Jay has also worked for a range of well-known companies including Mirvac, Urbex and Baulderstone Hornibrook, ensuring his knowledge of the industry is very comprehensive,” Mr Reed said.

While celebrating the new appointment, Mr Reed said he was saddened to be farewelling former Group Chief Financial Officer Mischa Leonard, who is pursuing employment opportunities overseas, but thanked him for his contribution to the group.

“Mischa has certainly been an asset to the organisation and we wish him all the best with his endeavours internationally,” Mr Reed said.

“We are delighted to welcome finance expert Elizabeth Walker who will join the group as its new Chief Financial Officer.”

“Elizabeth has over 20 years of experience in both large and small listed and private companies covering property development, construction, funds management and investment banking.”

“She has previously worked for Consolidated Pastoral Company and also been the Group Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Dennis Group — a privately owned group with both property and agricultural interests — and we are confident her diverse experience will further enhance our team.”

Mr Reed said the Reed Property Group had also experienced some changes within its development team, with qualified civil engineer Remi Rafter coming on board as Development Manager and former Residential Sales Executive Nick Criss stepping into the role of Assistant Development Manager.

“Having held project management roles at John Holland and in the Australian Army, Remi possesses extensive experience in managing construction and infrastructure projects both nationally and internationally,” Mr Reed said.

“In addition, Nick has been a valued member of our team for some time now, and with Assistant Development Manager Lisa Dwyer taking maternity leave, we felt Nick was very deserving of a promotion to this role.”

“Nick has worked on a range of Reed developments over the years, including Emporio in Maroochydore, and he has also played a key role in helping to acquire new contracts.”

Mr Reed said he was thrilled to have such a dynamic and skilled team driving Reed Property Group and RCQ Construction and looked forward to seeing what the future held for both companies.

“Having been part of the Queensland development and construction sector for almost three decades, we’re keen to continue our presence in the region and also look at new ways to expand and diversify our service offering.”

Reed Property Group and RCQ Construction have been delivering residential, commercial and retail projects throughout Queensland since 1987 and are some of the state’s largest privately-owned businesses. The group has offices on the Sunshine Coast, as well as in Brisbane, Townsville and Mackay and employs more than 80 staff.
