Master Builders Association Queensland awards celebrated
McNab Gold Coast is celebrating a big win for the construction of Mantra at Sharks, which was awarded best Tourism & Leisure Facility over $10 million at the Master Builders Queensland Housing & Construction awards hosted at Gold Coast Convention Centre on Saturday night.

The project — valued at $23 million — was constructed on behalf of the Southport Sharks and in partnership with project superintendent RPS Group and architects GSA Group.

McNab Managing Director and CEO Michael McNab said he was delighted with the win which recognised the quality workmanship and dedication of the McNab Gold Coast team.

“We are very proud of this project and I’d like to thank our project team and local subcontractors for their hard work and dedication to delivering a project worthy of taking home the award this weekend,” said Mr McNab.

“Client relationships are paramount for us and have been the recipe for our success, given we now receive over 85 per cent of our work as either repeat business or referrals. This win recognises our team for their ability to deliver award-winning projects at an outstanding quality.

“We’d also like to recognise the unique design elements within the building, including the unique art wall on the western façade which incorporates individually hung blades that move in the breeze as well as the striking porte cochere with canopy skylights to create an eye-catching entry for the guests.

“GSA Group did an exceptional job in the design of the building which we then had the opportunity to turn into reality.”

The McNab team worked collaboratively to design the rooftop to fully utilise the entire surface area and capitalise on the views of the football fields and Surfers Paradise skyline. This redesign created a second open-air rooftop green space for private functions, in addition to the guests’ rooftop bar which is now larger and partially enclosed to achieve more protection from the weather.

Southport Sharks CEO Dean Bowtell shared the McNab team’s excitement about the win and complimented the construction team for building their state of the art 120 room six-storey Mantra hotel and Aviary rooftop bar.

“First and foremost we’re all about delivering for our guests, and their feedback has been extremely positive, especially in relation to the quality of the finished product and experience on offer”, said Mr Bowtell.

“When a construction team can safely deliver a hotel of this premium quality, and do it ahead of schedule, you know you are working with professionals.  That’s exactly how I felt about our partnership with the McNab team and I congratulate them on this much-deserved win.”

The annual Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards recognise members at the forefront of building innovation and quality craftsmanship, promoting and showcasing excellence in Queensland’s housing and construction industry.

McNab employs over 50 people at its Gold Coast office and is currently working on eight projects across the region.
