2019 Gymnastics Queensland Junior State Championships – 27 September- 1 October

More than 1,000 junior gymnasts from across Queensland will compete in one of the biggest events on the Gymnastics Queensland calendar in a bid to claim the title of state junior champion.

The Junior State Championships and Regional Team Challenge – which is taking place at the Sleeman Sports Complex in Brisbane between 27 September and 1 October – is a prominent event with all competitors having to qualify at a regional level in order to compete.

Gymnastics Queensland Chief Executive Officer Kym Dowdell said this is the pinnacle event for many of our young gymnasts with competitors from 65 clubs taking part.

“The skill set these gymnasts will bring to the event hasn’t come easy – they’ve been working and training hard for months, committing time and energy so they can perform at a high level,” Ms Dowdell said.

“1107 athletes will take to the floor, vault, bars, rings and beam during the five-day event at the Sleeman Sports Complex Arena.

“Female gymnasts will demonstrate challenging routines in floor, vault, uneven bars and beam, while the male gymnasts will test their skills on the floor, vault, horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings and pommel horse.”

“It is a great opportunity for gymnasts to test their own abilities but also learn from their peers across the state with competitors travelling from as far north as Cairns and Townsville to the southern end of the Gold Coast.”

Ms Dowdell said their strength, flexibility and creativity will be showcased as they strive for gold in both their division but also the Regional Team Challenge which will take place on the final day of competition.

“The teams have recently been selected from each region to compete in the regional challenge and it will be a thrilling performance to see which one comes out on top.”

“This is a massive and spectacular event to watch and we want the community to show their support and inspire the next generation – there’s even free admission for children.”

The Junior State Championships and Regional Team Challenge will be held at the Sleeman Sports Complex at Chandler in Brisbane.
