Reed hands over the reins

July 25, 2016

Ken Reed, founding family member of one of the Sunshine Coast’s most well-known developers and construction companies Reed Property Group (RPG) has announced his resignation as chairman of the board after almost three decades with the organisation.

Mr Reed said the announcement was part of a long-term succession plan which was executed in 2014 and sought to see the Sunshine Coast property family hand over the reins to the RPG Board of Directors.

“In 2014, after appointing Jay Emmerton to the role of CEO, I removed myself from the day-to-day running of the business,” said Mr Reed.

“Jay was tasked with developing a strategy whereby I could exit the business with minimal impact and hand over the baton to a team which shared the values which have been at the heart of RPG since its inception in 1987.”

“Jay has certainly achieved this and after a very smooth transition period, I now feel confident to handover the chairmanship knowing I am leaving the RPG team in extremely capable hands.”

“It’s been a wonderful journey and I am very proud to have been part of an organisation that has contributed to both the skyline of the Sunshine Coast and the creation of new communities across Queensland.”

“This marks the end of an era given so many of our family have been involved in the organisation at various levels over the past 29 years, however I am really looking forward to focussing my energy on other pursuits, including the arrival of our first grandchild and spending quality time with my wife Leanne and our kids.”

Mr Emmerton thanked the Reed family for their significant contribution both to the organisation and the Sunshine Coast community.

“Reed has gone from strength to strength since it was established by founders Harry and Margaret Reed growing from humble beginnings to becoming one of Queensland’s most trusted and renowned property businesses alongside our construction division, RCQ Construction,” said Mr Emmerton.

“I don’t underestimate the contribution RPG has made to the local community over the years and I certainly look forward to continuing to support local initiatives into the future.”

“There are exciting times ahead for RPG with plans to expand into new markets whilst retaining the strong values and exceptional commitment to quality that we have become renowned for over the past three decades.”

RPG is currently in the process of appointing a new chairman.
