The complicated world of finance is not for the faint-hearted and finding advice that can be trusted is often challenging and confronting.

As a starting block to address this matter, Director of Ferguson Financial Planning, Tracey Ferguson, aims to open discussion with key business leaders when she and Lindy Kelly from Kelly and Co lead a brainstorming session on 6 September.

“When it comes to investing wisely and planning for retirement, most people need guidance from qualified and transparent professionals but knowing how to find those people can be daunting,” Ms Ferguson said.

“The need for quality advice is on the increase, as we start to see a migration of wealth from baby boomers to their Gen X and Gen Y children and it’s important that this new generation become aware of how to create the discipline early.”

“Sadly, endless case studies show that the lives of hard-working individuals have been devastated by not seeking out the right advice or by not having the intricate knowledge to ensure that their financial future is secure.”

“Our goal with the brainstorming session is to open discussion on how we can help educate vulnerable consumers and tailor communication for members of various industries to ensure people’s financial wellbeing.”

“Everyone should have the right and the ability to access good quality financial advice with a trusted professional and that’s what we’re hoping to achieve with this industry dialogue.”

2018 Sunshine Coast Businesswoman of the Year Award winner Kylie Pitt, will join the session, along with President of Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network, Roz White.

The session will partner with the Beacon Foundation, an organization that focuses on vulnerable community members and strives to inspire young people to prepare for their financial futures.

Beacon Foundation’s Director – Strategy and Innovation, Val Ridley said that there was a real need to educate people when it came to financial matters and having engagement from the business community would help create meaningful programs in the future.

“The Beacon Foundation works with schools, businesses and communities to help bring relevance to the school curriculum and create awareness of the importance of financial comprehension in a young person’s life,” Ms Ridley said.

The brainstorming session will take place on Thursday, 6 September at Hive Business Space. Local industry leaders who are keen to get involved in future events of this nature are welcome to email their interest to admin@fergusonfp.com.au.
