Local charity Wishlist is calling on the Sunshine Coast community to rally behind The House the Coast Built to help create a home away from home for families with loved-ones receiving life-saving treatment at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe today called on local businesses to come on board to support the project ― which is the charity’s most ambitious project yet ― including six ensuite rooms within close proximity of the hospital.

“Our primary focus is to keep families together at a time when the support of loved ones is needed the most, and anyone who has found themselves in this situation will know how important that is,” Ms Rowe said.

“For many families finding affordable accommodation close to the hospital is very difficult, especially for extended periods of time. Building The House the Coast Built will create a haven for families to return to after long and often very stressful days in hospital and the overwhelming support we are already seeing from the community reinforces the need for this type of home.

“We are incredibly lucky to have the wonderful team at Ausmar Homes back on board for this project and we don’t underestimate the value of their contribution in making this house a reality. This will be our fourth House the Coast Built we have done in partnership with Ausmar Homes, but in the past we have auctioned off the completed home to raise funds for health services. This is a little different as this house will be a home to those in need right here on the Sunshine Coast.”

Wishlist has already secured the land at Affinity Place in Birtinya and today’s launch will commence the call-out for support from local trades and suppliers as well as anyone else who feels they can contribute to the success of the project.

“The funds raised from 92.7 Mix FM’s Give Me 5 For Kids as well as those from this year’s very successful Wishlist Spring Carnival Lunch made it possible to purchase the land in a prime location,” Ms Rowe said.

“With the support of Ausmar Homes we hope to build and furnish the house thanks to donations and in-kind contributions. The House the Coast Built has always relied heavily on the contributions from local suppliers and trades and in the past the community has really rallied behind this project so we are hoping for a similar response.”

Ausmar Homes Business Unit Manager Josh Green said there were already a number of local businesses and tradespeople wanting to be involved and felt confident the ambitious end goal would be achieved thanks to the generosity of the Coast community.

“Those who come on board can take great satisfaction in the long-term contribution they are making to our community, this is an opportunity to genuinely make a difference to people’s lives at a time when it really matters,” Mr Green said.

“We are also delighted that our Ausmar Ambassador Darren Lockyer is also on board with The House the Coast Built. Darren is very generous in supporting charity events and we’re thrilled that he will be assisting in generating awareness for this project.

“At this stage we encourage anyone wanting to come on board to get in touch. We are looking for building supplies, trades people, landscaping and furniture to turn this into a welcoming home for those who need it.”
