With the Sunshine Coast’s population expected to reach just short of 400,000 by 2026, the Sunshine Coast Business Council is focusing on job and industry growth this year, starting with a lunch briefing on Tuesday 2 April.
Sunshine Coast Business Council Chair Sandy Zubrinich said that gaining a current understanding of the national and state employment market will set the scene for other Business Council events that will focus on job and industry growth stimulated from investments such as the International Submarine Cable.
“There are in excess of 7,000 new people moving to the Sunshine Coast each year and this is predicted to increase to more than 9,000 by 2026,” Ms Zubrinich said.
”Understanding where new jobs will be created to compete with capital cities and other regional centres to attract new talent and skills whilst retaining existing talent, is just common sense.”
“Figures released by the Federal Government have shown that the Australian economy is increasingly reliant on jobs growth in the outer areas of Sydney and Melbourne rather than the city centre, which is a trend also being seen in Brisbane.
“As a regional economy we, the business community, need to understand what is currently driving this job growth and how it might impact on our region, so we can plan accordingly.”
Mr Ross Elliott, Director of ‘The Suburban Alliance’ and Regional General Manager Queensland, APP Property and Infrastructure Specialists will present his observations from a paper he authored late last year Where the Jobs Will Be in 2023.
Mr Elliott has 30 years’ experience in the property and urban development industry, including national leadership roles for the Property Council of Australia and the Residential Development Council.
“The Sunshine Coast Business Council is encouraging the business community to bring clients, colleagues and business partners to better understand the national, state and regional perspective and how it might impact them,” Ms Zubrinich said.
